Villanova Theatre launches its 50th anniversary season with a masterpiece of American theatre, Eugene O'Neill's Long Day's Journey into Night. Robert Hedley directs.
As the sun rises on a seemingly placid summer day, a tightly-wound Irish-American family begins to unravel. The bullish James doggedly deflects his sons' criticisms; Jamie and Edmund struggle to communicate with the parents who love them to the point of blindness; and frail Mary retreats steadily into a dream world. Awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Long Day's Journey into Night is a gripping, poetic experience of family that is both exceptionally intimate and universally profound.
