(© Joseph Marzullo/Retna) | Eden Espinosa will play Sheila in the Broadway revival of Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical, which will now begin previews at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre beginning March 6 (as opposed to the previously announced February 10), with an opening set for March 31. Complete casting will be announced at a later date.
Presented by The Public Theater, which staged last summer's sold-out engagement at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, in partnership with co-lead producers Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel, the musical features book and lyrics by James Rado and Gerome Ragni, and music by Galt MacDermot. As at the Delacorte, the production will be directed by Diane Paulus. Liz McCann, who had previously been announced as a lead producer, will continue to work on the production.
With a score including musical numbers such as "Let the Sun Shine In," "Aquarius," "Hair" and "Good Morning Starshine," Hair follows a group of hopeful, free-spirited young people who advocate a lifestyle of pacifism and free-love in a society riddled with intolerance and brutality during the Vietnam War.
The production will reunite most of this past summer's creative team, including set designer Scott Pask, costume designer Michael McDonald, sound designer Acme Sound Partners, and choreographer Karole Armitage. Kevin Adams has been signed to design the lighting for the Broadway production.
