Martha Clarke's Garden of Earthly Delights to Play Minetta Lane in November

By: Brian Scott Lipton · Oct 21, 2008  · New York

Martha Clarke's acclaimed 1984 dance-theater piece Garden of Earthly Delights will now begin its 12-week Off-Broadway run at the Minetta Lane Theatre on November 8, with an official opening on November 19.

In the work, Clarke brings Hieronymus Bosch's provocative painting to life -- exploring heaven, hell, and the beauty and sins in between. The original production was honored with a Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience and an Obie Award for Richard Peaslee's original score.

The show will feature Sophie Bortolussi, Benjamin G. Bowman, Marjorie Folkman, Kurt Froman, General McArthur Hambrick, Whitney V. Hunter, Gabrielle Malone, Jennifer Nugent, Matt Rivera, Jenny Sandler, and Isadora Wolfe, along with musicians Bohdan Hilash (winds), Wayne Hankin (winds), Egil Rostad (cello), and Arthur Solari (percussion). The production has costumes by Jane Greenwood and lighting by Christopher Akerlind.

Garden of earthly delights is just incredible. I can not begin to put in to words how spectacular an experience it was to see this show. Unlike anything I have ever experienced. Mesmerizing! RUN do not walk!!!!
