Right in the middle of the turbulent hurricane season, Rising Action Theatre will try to lighten the mood with Some Men, September 24-October 19, Terrence McNally's new comedy with music. When guests gather together at a gay wedding ceremony, they discover true love in their own lives. For another dose of witty banter, sit down with the real desperate housewives at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in 3 Blonde Moms, September 25-27. The laughs will continue with Sandy Wolshin's journey through her life in The Rabbi & the Cheerleader (Hollywood Playhouse, September 3-21), from her childhood home with a Russian gypsy mother and a Jewish atheist father to her time as a cheerleader for the Raiders.

August Wilson's drama Radio Golf will fill the Mosaic Theatre stage in Plantation, September 11-12, exploring the truth of African American assimilation and alienation in the 1990s. The concluding play in Wilson's ten-play cycle chronicling African American life during the twentieth century, this piece traces the forces of change that trap people and neighborhoods between their history and the 21st century.

The Caldwell Theatre will have a few laughs in Boca Raton this month with Lying in State, September 5-21. Enjoy David C. Hyer's hilarious cast of characters, who show up after Senator Ed accidentally shoots himself while trying to shoot squirrels. Further north in Jupiter, The Jove has another dose of their talents for sketch comedy fans with The Fall of Education, September 5-6, at the Atlantic Theater. Openings this month continue further west in Orlando with the Plaza Theatre production of The Rock and The Rabbi, September 26-27, a biblical piece based on the life of Peter the Fisherman and Jesus of Nazareth.

Back in the 21st century, Toxic Audio returns this month to the Plaza Theatre, September 12-13, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this Grammy nominated group and a cappella phenomenon. For a different kind of musical fix, the Orlando Shakespeare Theater will present Cole Porter's take on The Taming of the Shrew, Kiss Me Kate, September 17-October 12, starring Michael Andrew. On the west coast, Tampa's Jobsite Theater Ensemble will dive into relationships this month with Blackbird, September 11-28, with the story of two people who once had a passionate affair and meet again fifteen years later.

Further south on the gulf coast, Sarasota will join a gossip circle in a beauty salon in Louisiana with the ladies of Robert Harling's play, Steel Magnolias, September 25-October 12, at the Manatee Players. His play is filled with truly touching, funny and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad. If you prefer a meal with your entertainment, Golden Apple Dinner Theatre will take a romp to a world full of dirty old men, sweet young lovers, and conniving golddiggers with Golddiggers of 1633, September 30-November 22. The award winning comic musical revue, Forbidden Broadway will set up shop at the Venice Theatre, September 5-21, to give the Venice area a taste of hilarious satire of this entertaining tribute to some of the theater's greatest stars and songwriters of the Broadway stage.

For a family outing in the Orlando area, join Bastian as he dives into the story of Atreyu and his quest to save Fantastica from The Nothing in The Neverending Story, September 5-October 5, a stage version of the film. If you're in the Fort Lauderdale area, the Broward Center will present a musical take on the biblical story of Noah's Ark in Fixin' 2 Rain, September 10-14, with larger than life animals and special effects.
