Second Stage to Buy Broadway's Helen Hayes Theater

By: Brian Scott Lipton · Jul 16, 2008  · New York

Second Stage Theatre has acquired the right to purchase the historic Helen Hayes Theatre, located at 240 West 44th Street, and begin programming there in 2010. It will give the company a permanent presence on Broadway, which it currently does not have.

Second Stage will continue to lease and operate their two original theaters, the McGinn/Cazale, on 76th and Broadway, where it presents its Uptown series during the summer, and its main home at 303 West 43rd Street, which is currently hosting a revival of Richard Nelson's Some Americans Abroad.

The Helen Hayes is currently home to Xanadu, and has recently housed such shows as Latinologues, Jay Johnson: The Two and Only, and Bridge and Tunnel.
