(© Joseph Marzullo/WENN) | Just because it's June doesn't mean you should cross cabaret off the calendar. In fact, this will be one of the most exciting months of the whole year!
Indeed, the star power at Feinstein's at the Loews Regency is particularly impressive. Club favorite Tony Danza returns with an all-new show (June 3-14), followed by the fabulous Liz Callaway performing the music of the 1960s in The Beat Goes On (June 17-28). If that's not enough, the Sunday-Monday night lineup includes Tony Award nominees Emily Skinner (June 1 and 8), Orfeh (June 2), and Adam Pascal (June 29-30), plus former Spring Awakening star Lea Michele with her popular show Once Upon a Dream (June 16) and songstress Julie Budd (June 22-23).
The Oak Room at the Algonquin Hotel is currently spotlighting one of the club's most popular chanteuses, Karen Akers, whose new show Move On (May 13-June 14) features the work of Sondheim, Yeston, Porter, McBroom, Rodgers & Hart, and Ahrens & Flaherty. She will be followed by up-and-comer Sheera Ben David (June 17-28), whose new show Come Summer will include selections by Jerry Herman, John Bucchino, Jason Robert Brown, Tom Kitt, and Cole Porter.
Meanwhile, at the Café Carlyle, the ageless Eartha Kitt returns to close the season (June 4-July 5). If you've never seen this incredible wonder, go now. If you have, well, go again!
The star-studded lineup for Broadway at Birdland includes Legally Blonde star Kate Shindle (June 2), Simply Barbra's Steven Brinberg with special guests Malcolm Gets and Sian Phillips (June 9), Klea Blackhurst and Billy Stritch (June 16), Christine Pedi (June 23), and Tony Award winner Christine Ebersole and Billy Stritch (June 30). Not to mention, that this month's regular engagements at Birdland include the one-and-only Keely Smith (June 3-8), the great Phoebe Snow (June 17-22), and award-winning jazz vocalist Kurt Elling (June 25-29).
The eclectic goings-on at the Zipper Factory include a new show from Randy Blair (June 2), Lucy Woodward (June 5), Brown Girls Burlesque (June 6-7), The Wau Wau Sisters (June 7), Lady, Lady, Lady (June 11), Robert German (June 14), Creation Nation (June 17, 24), Our Lady J with special guest Justin Bond (June 18), and the monthly installment of Don't Quit Your Night Job (June 26).
There are plenty of reasons to visit Joe's Pub, including appearances by Chicago star Bianco Marroquin (June 2), Marga Gomez and Carmelita Tropicana (June 9), Martha Wainwright (June 12), a tribute to the late Daniel McDonald (June 16), and the multi-talented Alec Mapa (June 28-29).
The Metropolitan Room pulls out all the stops this month with such stars as Marcus Simeone (June 2), Suzanne Carrico (June 2), Julie Reyburn (June 5, 12), Martin Vidnovic (June 9, 16, 23, 30), Jamie deRoy & friends (June 11), Jeanne MacDonald (June 14, 21, 28), Michael Winther (June 18, 23, 25, 30), Tom Wopat (June 19, 26) Marta Sanders (June 20-21), Kate Taylor (June 24), Mercedes Hall (June 27-28), and Karen Oberlin (June 29).
Outside of the Big Apple, the Bradstan Inn Cabaret in White Lake, New York kicks off its summer season with the gorgeous Christine Andreas (June 22) and the aforementioned Liz Callaway (June 29); Morgan's Cabaret at the Prince Music Theatre in Philadelphia concludes its season with the amazing Marilyn Maye (June 4-14); Baby Jane Dexter plays The Colony's Royal Room in Palm Beach (June 6-14); and the Rrazz Room at San Francisco's Nikko Hotel offers up such superb talents as Bobby Caldwell (June 1), Shawn Ryan (June 3), Oleta Adams (June 4-7),
Suede (June 7-8), Shaynee Rainbolt (June 9), Diahann Carroll (June 10-15), Spencer Day (June 17-21), Roslyn Kind (June 22-23), Andrea McArdle (June 26-28), and Sony Holland (June 29-30).
