(© David Allen Studio) | Nominations for Boston's annual Elliot Norton Awards, honoring the best in area theater, have been announced. The ceremony will be held at 7pm on Monday, May 12 at Harvard's Sanders Theatre.
Among the more high-profile nominees are the national tours of Avenue Q, which earned nods for Best Visiting Production and actress Kelli Sawyer; My Fair Lady, which earned nods for Best Visiting Production and actress Lisa O'Hare; and Sweeney Todd, which earned nods for actress Judy Kaye and director John Doyle.
Other notable nominees include solo performers Mike Daisey (Monopoly and Invincible Summer) and Nilaja Sun (No Child), actors Victor Garber (Present Laughter) and Max Wright (No Man's Land), and director Maria Aitken (The 39 Steps).
Director Nicholas Martin, who is finishing up his tenure as artistic director of the Huntington Theatre Company and taking over as artistic director of The Williamstown Theatre Festival, will receive the group's Norton Prize for Sustained Excellence.
This year's awards committee includes Terry Byrne, Carolyn Clay, Iris Fanger, Louise Kennedy, Joyce Kulhawik, Sandy MacDonald, Robert Nesti, Ed Siegel, and
Caldwell Titcomb.
