 | | Michael Friedman | This Beautiful City, a musical by Steven Casson, Jim Lewis, and Michael Friedman of The Civilians, will be presented next season in New York as a co-production of the Vineyard Theatre and the Center Theatre Group. The show recently debuted at the Humana Festival of New Plays in Louisville, Kentucky.
The show, based on actual interviews, focuses on the history of the evangelical movement in Colorado Springs, a city known for its numerous large churches, one of which, the New Life Church, was run by Ted Haggard, who was forced to resign after being linked to a male prostitute.
The Civilians are known for such works as Gone Missing, Canard, Canard, Goose, and (I Am) Nobody's Lunch. Their newest work Paris Commune will be presented this month at the Public Theater.
