Conor McPherson's The Seafarer has been added to the Geffen Theater's 2008-09 season. Set in Dublin on Christmas Eve, the play follows Sharky, who has returned home to look after his aging brother who's recently gone blind. With old drinking buddies on hand for a card game and the arrival of a stranger from the distant past, the stakes get raised and Sharky finds himself playing for his very soul. The Tony-nominated play will run April 14-May 24, with an opening set for April 22. The Geffens artistic director, Randall Arney, will helm the production.

As previously announced, the season will begin with Joel Zwick's production of Hershey Felder's Beethoven, As I Knew Him, to run August 19-October 12, with an opening set for August 27. The Geffen will also present Felder's George Gershwin Alone, also directed by Zwick, December 19-January 4.

Also on tap will be Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Schenkkan's two-character drama By The Waters of Babylon, directed by Richard Seyd (November 5-December 7); the world premiere of Pulitzer winner Donald Margulies' Time Stands Still, about a journalistic team and longtime couple recovering from an assignment in the Middle East, to be directed by Daniel Sullivan (February 11-March 15), and the world premiere of Jonthan Brielle's musical Nightmare Alley, set in the world of a carnival, directed by Gilbert Cates (June 24-July 26).
